Sometimes its all about luck and coincident. Couple of weeks ago our insurance agent, Jeroen Boesveld, came to pay us a visit to discuss our insurances in regard to our new situation. He had seen my photography on this website and coincidentally he was in the market for some portraits for his own company website, in order to personalize it a bit (rather than having only a few stock images…). One let to another and we decided I would make a couple of headshot kind of portraits, a little on the edge, somewhere in between your basic perfect evenly lit standard corporate portrait and my low-key “noirish”-styled portrait work. Secondly, we would do a group-portrait of all three members of the company.
For the individual portraits I created a temporary studio in the pantry/printer/stock room, which was rather tiny.
I used a simple dark grey cloth as background, lit form below by a blue gelled speedlight. As key light I placed a 50cm/22″ beauty dish slightly left from (camera right) and close above in front of the subject, tilted almost horizontally. Camera left and behind the subject I had a 40cmx40cm softbox acting as a rim-baclight. A rather straight forward set up for a corporate portrait I guess.
For the group portrait I placed all three in front of their office building, next to the “billboard”/nameplate. As I wanted to kill the ambient as much as possible to avoid a blown highlighted sky, the building became to dark for my taste, hence I lit it with two CTO geleld speedlights. The group was lit by the 50cm beauty dish cam right, slightly of camera-axis.
All three were very easy to work with. Jeroen, Geert and Dave: It was my pleasure to work with you.
Cheers (Next post: Cars ‘n’ chicks in leather…)
